the vein part of a fee is seven eighths of it. it leaves the intake the moment the trade is read. the solver opens an intent on near intents with the vein amount as the input and the destination chain's asset as the output, delivered to the machine's own address on that chain. the solver is not a market maker. it takes whichever quote is standing, direct or two hop, and the route it took is recorded on the fill.
on zcash the delivery is a shielded transaction to the machine's unified address. the receiving note is an orchard note. its commitment is inserted into the orchard commitment tree and the tree's anchor after that insertion is what the share proves against. on monero the delivery is a normal transaction to the machine's primary address. the receiving output has a one time public key and a global output index, and the index is what the share proves.
nothing in either position is ever spent. the program has no instruction that spends a note or an output, and the machine holds no spending key on solana. the viewing keys are published so the balances can be read. the only way the vein changes is by growing.
tailings are the settled assets of uncle fragments. they are in the same addresses as the rest, they are just counted apart because the share that proved them carried half weight. the vein row under the miner on the home page includes tailings in its width.
the program keeps the last 32 orchard anchors. the relay feeds it a new anchor as zcash blocks land. a zcash share whose anchor is older than the mirror's oldest entry cannot be proven and is orphaned; a share whose anchor is newer than the mirror's newest entry waits as pending until the relay catches up. the lag above is how many zcash blocks the mirror is behind the chain tip.
